| FEEDING RECOMMENDATIONS
FEED LOTTING
Stock will consume approximately 3% to 3.5% of their body weight per day. Of this about 10% to 25% of their daily consumption should be roughage and the remainder pellets. Feed-Lot Pellets should be introduced gradually and the amount fed increased over a period of two to three weeks. Pellets should be available at all times. To limit the intake of pellets during the introduction phase it is recommended that good quality (palatable) hay be fed. As stock become accustomed to the pellets the hay can be replaced with straw which is less palatable. As hay or straw consumption decreases the consumption of pellets will increase. The more pellets consumed the better the daily weight gain. To maximise performance feed as much pellets as possible without stock scouring. If some of the stock show signs of scouring it will be necessary to increase roughage consumption and reduce pellet consumption. Do this by feeding good quality hay (which is more palatable) rather than straw, this will generally reduce pellet consumption.
Main points to note:
• Regulate hay consumption to ensure that scouring does not occur.
• Clean cool water must be available at all times.
• Do not make sudden changes in diet as digestive problems may occur.
• Vaccinate stock for enterotoxaemia upon arrival to the feed lot and give a booster as per vaccination instructions.

PADDOCK CONDITIONING
Feed-Lot Pellets can be used to maintain or enhance condition of stock on low quality or low quantity paddock feed. Pellets can be trailed on the ground or fed from self feeders. Generally between 0.5% to 2.5% of body weight per day will be fed along with roughage. Introduce pellets gradually and increase the amount fed until the desired level is reached. Ensure roughage is available at all times.
Do not make sudden changes in diet as digestive problems may occur. Ensure that personnel attending the stock keep a constant watch of digestive problems such as scouring. If scouring or other digestive problems occur decrease the amount of pellets being fed and feed extra roughage until digestive function returns to normal.
